Data deletion

You can have any of your data on Dog Rescuer removed. Pick the path that matches what you want gone:

If you have an account on this site

Go to /me/delete and follow the two-step confirmation (you'll be asked to type DELETE). On confirmation:

• Your user record is removed.
• Your favourites, your foster/adopt expressions of interest, and your capability/profile data are deleted.
• Content you contributed (photos, visit notes, link submissions) stays on the dogs it's attached to — but the attribution to you is removed so the content is unattributed going forward. (This is so the dog's history isn't broken.)

If you want the content itself gone (not just your attribution), delete each photo / link / note from the relevant dog's profile before deleting your account.

If you commented on one of our Facebook posts

Delete the comment on Facebook directly. Facebook notifies us, and your comment disappears from this site within seconds. There is nothing to do on our side and no waiting period.

If for some reason you can't delete on Facebook (account locked, etc.), email us — see "Contact" below.

If you never had an account but want something removed

Use the contact form with:

• What you'd like removed (URL of the page or content if possible)
• Any verification you can offer (e.g. the email matching the account, screenshot showing it's your content)

We'll act within a few days. This is a volunteer project so we can't promise instant response, but we will get to it.

Database backups

Once your data is deleted from the live database, it persists in encrypted daily backups on Cloudflare R2 for up to 30 days before being purged. We only restore from backups in disaster-recovery scenarios.

Public shelter data

Information about specific dogs comes from publicly published shelter listings and county PDFs. We can't remove information about a specific dog from this site at the request of a third party — the source data is still public on the shelter's own website. If a dog has been adopted, transferred, or has passed, that outcome will appear on this site if it appears in the shelter's daily report.
